According to Ford, a recently reported issue with the transmission in some 2014 F-150 trucks could cause them to downshift unexpectedly at any speed. This loss of control could lead to a crash.

U.S. safety regulators investigated complaints in March 2024 regarding unexpected downshifting in over 540,000 Ford F-150 pickups from the 2014 model year. This issue, potentially caused by a lost signal between the transmission and control module, could increase the risk of a crash. Ford has since initiated a recall to address this problem.

The fix is free! Dealers will update the powertrain control software for affected 2014 F-150 owners. Ford will mail notification letters in early July. Repairs are expected to be available by this fall (third quarter). For added convenience, some dealerships offer mobile service or pickup and delivery for the repair.
