- Limited Charging Infrastructure: While growing rapidly, charging stations are still less common than gas stations, especially in rural areas. This can cause “range anxiety” for long trips, requiring careful planning and potentially longer travel times due to charging stops.
- Charging Time vs. Refueling: Filling a gas tank takes minutes, while even fast-charging an EV can take hours. This can be inconvenient for busy schedules or road trips where quick refueling is a plus.
- Higher Upfront Cost: Electric vehicles generally have a higher initial purchase price compared to similar gasoline-powered models. Government incentives can help offset this, but the upfront cost remains a consideration.
- Battery Degradation: EV batteries lose capacity over time, reducing their driving range. While this typically happens gradually over years, it can eventually necessitate a costly battery replacement.
- Limited Selection of Models: The selection of electric vehicles, particularly in specific segments like trucks and SUVs, is still not as vast as that of gasoline-powered cars. This may limit your options based on your needs and preferences.
- This is my personal opinion, it is a nice engine sound that you cannot hear from inside or outside, for example a growling V8, a roaring V12 🙂
